# Explore Your Preferences, Privately

One place to understand the site's private self-reflection tools, start the flagship assessment, and see what's coming next — without a second "BDSM test" landing page in the way.

**What tools does this page offer, and what can they actually tell me?**

This is the hub for every private self-discovery tool on the site, built for adults who want to notice patterns in their own preferences rather than adopt a label because it sounds right. Dominant, submissive and switch are useful words, not requirements, and nothing here decides your identity for you. The flagship tool — the Dom/Sub/Switch assessment — runs entirely in your browser, asks either 24 or 72 non-explicit questions depending on how much time you have, and hands back a multidimensional result you can use to think about control, structure and connection. It needs no account and no email, and it keeps nothing after you close the tab. The rest of this page explains how to use that result well, and what else is coming.

Maybe it's late and you've been circling the same question in your head for weeks. Maybe you'd just rather answer fifteen honest questions than read another forum thread trying to work out if you're the only one who thinks like this. Either way — nothing below will tell you who you are. It's here to help you ask the question properly, and read whatever comes back without over-trusting it.

## Start with the flagship assessment

The Dom/Sub/Switch assessment is the tool most people come here for, and it's built to feel like a considered conversation with yourself rather than one of the throwaway personality quizzes you'd skim past elsewhere. Choose Quick if you have five minutes and want a first read. Choose Deep if you'd rather answer more and get a fuller picture. Either way, scoring happens on your device, never on a server, and your answers are gone the moment you close the tab unless you choose to keep them in mind.

- Quick mode: 24 questions, roughly five minutes
- Deep mode: 72 questions, a fuller multidimensional picture
- Scoring happens privately in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere
- No account, no email address, no login required

Ready? [Take the Dom/Sub/Switch assessment](https://classic-bdsm.com/test/dom-sub-switch/). If you would rather understand how it works before you start, read [how the assessment works](https://classic-bdsm.com/test/dom-sub-switch/methodology/) first — it covers what the nine dimensions actually measure and what they deliberately do not.

## Why self-reflection instead of a label generator

Dominance and submission rarely sit still. You might feel drawn to lead with one person and have no interest in it with another. You might find something appealing to imagine and have zero pull toward trying it. A tool that forces all of that into one tidy category is doing you a disservice — a good one surfaces the pattern, including the uncertainty in it, instead of rounding you down to a single word.

A label can still be useful — it gives you a word to search, a community to read, a shorthand for a conversation you would otherwise have to build from nothing. The problem is only ever using it as a starting point for an answer instead of as the end of one. Most people who have thought about this seriously for a while describe it less like a fixed identity and more like a comfortable range: a place their preferences tend to sit, with real movement either side of it depending on who they are with and how much they trust that person.

That distinction between what interests you in your head and what you would actually want in real life is worth understanding on its own — [fantasy versus real life](https://classic-bdsm.com/learn/fantasy-vs-real-life/) goes into it properly. And if the three role words themselves still feel slippery, [Dom vs sub vs switch](https://classic-bdsm.com/explore/dom-vs-sub-vs-switch/) lays out what actually separates them before you take anything.

## What the flagship assessment looks at

The assessment scores nine separate dimensions rather than handing you one number. Here is what each one is actually about, kept deliberately brief — the full scoring approach and its limits live on the methodology page.

The nine dimensions the assessment reflects back to you

| Dimension | What it looks at |
| --- | --- |
| Dominant tendency | How drawn you are to taking the lead within boundaries someone else has actively agreed to |
| Submissive tendency | How appealing it is to hand some decisions over to someone you trust |
| Contextual flexibility | How much your preferred role shifts with partner, mood or situation |
| Control/surrender orientation | How central negotiated control itself feels to you, apart from any one activity |
| Structure/ritual | How much you are drawn to agreed rules, routines or small rituals |
| Emotional connection | How much closeness and trust need to be present before any of this interests you |
| Communication/negotiation | How strongly you prefer things spelled out rather than assumed |
| Intensity/exploration | How curious you are about more intense experiences, described in broad, non-graphic terms |
| Fantasy-to-real-life readiness | Whether your answers point mostly toward imagination or toward something you would consider trying |

That table is intentionally short. For exactly how these nine are scored, and what the assessment deliberately does not attempt to measure, read [how the assessment works](https://classic-bdsm.com/test/dom-sub-switch/methodology/).

## Privacy by default

> **What actually happens to your answers:** Your answers live only in your browser while you're on the page. Nothing is submitted to a server as you go, no account or email is ever requested, and refreshing or leaving the page clears everything — your progress and your result both. We don't collect analytics on individual answers, item choices or scores, only coarse events such as a test starting or finishing.

- Answers stay in your browser while you take the assessment
- No answer or score is ever submitted to a server
- No account or email address is requested at any point
- A refresh or a closed tab clears your progress and result completely
- No analytics record what you answered or what result you got

If something in a result feels worth discussing with a partner, that conversation belongs to the two of you — not to a score, and not to this page. When a considered way to connect with others here is ready, it will be built on the same principle: privacy first, and nothing you didn't opt into.

## How to use a result well

A result is a starting point for thinking, not a verdict to accept or argue with. Three steps get you most of the way there.

1. **Notice.** Read what came back without bracing for a label you have to live up to. It reflects how you answered today, nothing more permanent than that.
2. **Reflect.** Sit with what actually felt true against what merely felt interesting to imagine. Those are different things, and the assessment tries to keep them separate for exactly that reason.
3. **Read deeper.** Follow whatever leaned strongest to the educational page that matches it — [Am I dominant?](https://classic-bdsm.com/explore/am-i-dominant/), [Am I submissive?](https://classic-bdsm.com/explore/am-i-submissive/) or [Am I a switch?](https://classic-bdsm.com/explore/am-i-a-switch/) — for the depth a results page was never going to give you. If anything in your result is relevant to an actual partner, [how consent works in BDSM](https://classic-bdsm.com/learn/consent-in-bdsm/) is worth reading before that conversation, not instead of it.

One thing this page will not do is tell you to change anything about your life on the strength of a result. It is a prompt for thinking, not instructions to follow.

## More tools, coming later

A few more tools are already sketched and waiting their turn: a Submissive Type Explorer, a D/s Compatibility Checker, a Boundaries & Limits Builder, a D/s Conversation Builder, an Exploration Readiness tool, and an India/Delhi Community Explorer. None of them exist yet — there is nothing to click here, and this is not a placeholder page pretending otherwise. When any of them ship, they will appear on this page properly, built the same way the flagship assessment is: private by default, and a result that never talks like a verdict.

## Grounded in research, not a diagnosis

The nine dimensions above didn't come from nowhere — they're informed by established BDSM and kink literature on personality, communication and consent. What they are not is a validated clinical or diagnostic instrument. No score here has been checked against a real psychometric scale, and nothing on this site borrows the authority of one. [Read the full methodology](https://classic-bdsm.com/test/dom-sub-switch/methodology/) for exactly what informed the design, what it does not measure, and where its limitations actually sit.
